Why should I text my customers?

Text messaging is one of the most effective small business marketing tools out there. Sending targeted messages to customers is a great tactic to boost sales. Suppose you spend $12.50 to send texts to 500 customers. If only 25 of those customers are convinced to buy something, that could generate up to $750 in revenue!

Because alcohol marketing has a few rules attached, many liquor stores don’t use it. But as long as you opt customers into texts, and don’t promote excessive drinking, it’s a great marketing method.

What do I need to get started with text message marketing on Bottle POS?

Before using the text marketing feature on Bottle POS, your business needs to be approved for a dedicated phone number. Once you become a Bottle POS customer, submit your business information to our team. Once approved, we’ll get you set up with a phone number. 

What is SHAFT, and how does Bottle POS help keep text messaging compliant?

SHAFT stands for Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, and Tobacco, and represents the categories of messages that are closely monitored by the CTIA and mobile carriers. The most important aspect of marketing alcohol products is to have a clear age gate and opt-in process.

Because Bottle POS allows customers to enter their phone number and opt in to text messages at the same time their ID is checked at the register, we help liquor store owners send text messages that are less likely to be rejected.

 

How much does it cost to send text messages on Bottle POS?

Bottle POS includes 500 free messages per month. After that, it is $0.025 per message and billed monthly. Let’s say you send out 1,000 messages in a month. You get 500 free, then pay only $12.50 for the next 500. You’re only billed for what you use.

Do I need permission from my customers before texting them?

Yes, customers must opt in to receiving text messages before you can send them messages. This ensures you do not incur fines from the TCPA. Bottle POS includes an opt-in flow when customers enter their phone numbers.

What kind of messages can I send using Bottle POS? What’s off limits?

Once customers opt in to receiving text messages, you can promote discounts, events, and exclusive bottle drops. Your text cannot promote excessive drinking or dangerous behaviors. Also, advertising tobacco products, CBD, and THC is strictly prohibited.

Can I include photos or images in my texts?

Currently, Bottle POS does not support sending pictures in text messaging.

How do I sign customers up for text messaging on Bottle POS?

Bottle POS makes it easy to collect phone numbers at checkout for customer loyalty and to opt in to texting. Once customers’ phone numbers are in the system, you can build SMS lists based on customers who have opted in. 

How do I personalize text message marketing on Bottle POS?

Bottle POS allows you to personalize your text messages by creating customer groups (aka “customer segments”) based on their sales history. For example, you might make a segment for customers who frequently buy wine (Wine Lovers). You canthen set up an SMS campaign surrounding a new wine release that only goes out to the Wine Lovers.

Creating customer groups on Bottle POS is a great way to send out deals and announcements directly to the customers most interested in those products.
