An overview of each feature...

Non-Cash Fee:
  • Cash price is considered the 'regular price'
  • Non-cash adjustment fee is added to all sales
  • Discount is applied only to cash sales
  • Non-cash adjustment and discount are displayed on the customer display and the receipt

According to Visa, this is ‘surcharging’, it has complex regulations and potential fines for non-compliance.

Dual Pricing

  • Each item has a card price and a cash price
    • Card price (i.e., higher price) is considered the regular price in the POS
    • Cash price (i.e., lower, discounted price) is applied when using cash
  • The card ‘fee’ (i.e., difference in the card price and cash price) is not displayed on the customer display or receipt

Allowed in all 50 states: this protects your business from fines related to not meeting the specific surcharge requirements in your area.

Why Dual Pricing?

  • Compliance: Avoid fines by adhering to card brand regulations.
  • Transparency: Clear display of cash and card prices to customers.
  • Simplicity: Streamlined pricing structure for easier management.

Steps to Check Price Setting Compliance:

CONFIRM: If the Type field contains any value other than Dual Pricing or if you are not showing both cash and non-cash prices for your products, then you are not compliant and may face fines from the card brands.

For Dual Pricing, the ‘Summary’ report will display a new line called ‘Additional Card Fee’. This will show the difference between cash and regular price for all transactions made during the time period of the report.

Shelf Pricing

Dual Pricing labels displaying regular and cash price are available to print. It is a requirement to display the regular (credit card) price for all products. Most customers showcase both prices with the cash price being displayed more predominantly.
